Natural Soap

Small-batch soaps, made by hand from beef tallow or olive oil, blended with organic ingredients. A few of our soap recipes steep our own tea leaves into the bar, carrying their oils and antioxidants onto the skin. Nourishing, quietly hydrating, and free of the synthetic preservatives most commercial bars lean on.

About Natural Soap

Caring for natural soap

What makes natural soap different

Natural bar soap is typically made from plant oils and butters — olive, coconut, shea or cocoa butter — combined through saponification, the chemical reaction that turns oils into soap. Many are scented with essential oils and coloured with clays or botanicals rather than synthetic dyes. Because the glycerin produced during saponification is usually left in, these bars tend to feel gentler than many mass-market detergent bars. Ingredients vary by bar, so check each product description above for specifics.

Making your bar last

The secret to a long-lasting bar is letting it dry between uses. Store it on a draining soap dish or a slatted rack, out of the direct stream of the shower. Cutting a large bar in half and using one piece at a time also helps. Unopened bars keep best in a cool, dry cupboard, where many will continue to harden slightly over time. A natural bar paired with a loose leaf tea makes a thoughtful self-care gift.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my natural soap getting soft?

Natural soap holds glycerin, which attracts moisture. If it sits in water it will soften quickly, so use a draining dish and keep it out of the shower spray between uses.

Is natural soap suitable for sensitive skin?

Many people with sensitive skin enjoy simple, plant-based bars, but everyone reacts differently. Read the ingredient list, especially for essential oils, and patch-test a small area first.

How long does a bar of soap last?

With daily use and good drainage, a standard bar usually lasts three to five weeks. Keeping it dry between uses makes the biggest difference.
